Paintless dent repairer (PDR) Shane Andersen is a local Gold Coast ‘tradie’ who has developed an Apple-approved iPhone application that helps other PDR professionals quote on jobs in less than a minute from any location in the world.
Taking six months to develop, ‘PDR Quote’ is now available in 87 countries through the iTunes App Store and is complete with over 900 makes and models of cars from around the globe.
Selling for only $399, PDR Quote already has a spin-off ‘iCAR Quote’ that enables any type of auto service industry to tailor the application to their specifications so that they too can quickly quote on repairing anything from mag-wheels to new windscreens.
According to developer Shane Anderson, who owns Presi-Dent Removals on the Gold Coast, this new application will revolutionise the way the industry quotes its repairs for customers.
“I’ve developed the software so that people can be anywhere in the field, send a quote almost instantly and have that same quote sync back into their computer – the whole system is as effortless as it is paperless,” said Shane.
Anderson is also well underway with linking PDR Quote to speak directly with major insurance companies’ systems so that by Christmas, PDR quotes and invoices can be sent directly from repairers’ iPhones to the insurance companies.
According to Anderson, who finished school in grade 10 and has been in the industry since that time, he trained himself in writing software code so as to develop the new automotive application.
“I spent weeks looking through books and watching videos about computer programming, to try to educate and familiarise myself with the terms and basic principles of programming then learning the next step of dissecting and adapting simple code,” said Shane.
“I had the idea floating around in my head for a very long time, but never had the skill to complete it, however after upgrading to an iPhone I instantly knew this was the platform my industry needed,” he said.

I have this app on my iphone.... its a must if you have an iphone and do estimates... I use to keep track of my cars that i've fixed.... You can adjust all prices for your market... check it out
i use this for cars that i'm fixing to keep a list... i print them off when i get home... as far as an instant print... just email the document... then print from your laptop....
The App was designed to be paperless, PDR Quote generates PDF files that email directly from the iPhone to the customer/insurance company while also sending a copy back to a home base for accounting, we have found that over 98% of customers now have access to email, and by giving them a digital copy it reduces the chance of lost or damaged invoices, while increasing the workflow of the repairer.
If there is a need to print a copy of the invoice, the user has the option to either send the email to themselves, and print it from there base computer. Or use another app such as "HP Print" to wirelessly connect there iPhone on there network and print as required.
I noticed you sell software to train people, nice idea in theory but really, how many people become dent guys or good dent guys from a computer program.
Its hard enough to learn with someone showing you so how could this possibly work? I like the pdr quote thing though.

I have a retail shop and I want to do estimate for customers in the parking lot and print them a copy is there a way to print straight to a printer? and will the app work for the new IPAD.

Yes the App works perfectly on the new iPad, and also on a iPod Touch.
The way i would set up in that scenario, is have attach a printer to your local network, install HP Print, and your away. The App can save your estimates as images, so that these types of Apps can be utilized.(turn on .jpg in settings)
We have also found that the advantages on having PDRQuote on your phone far outweigh the disadvantages, simply because i do not always have my laptop/PDA ect, but as a business owner i always have my phone.
At the end of your day, attach your iPhone to your main computer, and it will save all your documents as images and time stamp them for easy recall. Then delete from your iPhone if required.
For Australian techs, it is now Arnie certified, it sends an XML of your document, and links directly with Suncorp, GIO, RACQ, VERO, SIS, VEROCP, AMP insurance companies, just like the major Bodyshop programs do.
There is a sister of PDR Quote, called iCar Quote.
Basically the same without the PDR Branding, all fields are customizable, so you can easily change "Left front Door" to "Left Door Glass" or whatever you wish and that will be saved for next time.
I tried to make it as customizable as possible, so it may be used in not only any situation for car repairs, but also any country and language.
There is a fully customizable (will work with any mobile auto repair) windows based program for a hand held and also a version for a laptop around here somewhere that is a one time fee, yours forever and has been in use by a lot of techs for many years. I wouldn't ever put that stuff on my phone, but hey that's me. Have at it!
Check out invoice2go at the iphone app store. It's a customizable estimate and invoice system that produces a pdf file you can email your customer. Very professional looking and all for only $10.
I have the PDR Quote on my Iphone and its the only system I use.
I haven't written an invoice manually for 6 months.
So easy to use and it's a good feature most people have not seen before.
Another good thing for marketing is that you obtain all your clients email addresses, so if you like, you can remain in contact with them over a period of time.
